Gunther Pohl (born September 12, 1941 in Oppeln , Upper Silesia) is a German flutist and professor of flute.

biography

Gunther Pohl grew up in Bonn and studied with Hans-Peter Schmitz at the Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie Detmold and, as a DAAD scholarship holder, with Gaston Crunelle at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique Paris . He is the winner of various competitions, including the competition of the state music academies of the FRG (first prize, 1967), the "Podium of young soloists: Federal selection of concerts of young artists" of the German Music Council (1968 and 1969), the International Friedrich Kuhlau Competition ( second prize, 1970) and the XIX. International ARD Music Competition (third prize, 1970).

Following various positions as solo flutist, including with the NDR Symphony Orchestra , he was solo flutist with the Bamberg Symphony from 1973 to 2006 . Between 1976 and 1985 he also worked as a solo flutist at the Bach Collegium Stuttgart.

From 1971 to 1991 Gunther Pohl was honorary professor for flute and chamber music at the Lübeck University of Music , from 1997 he was a lecturer at the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music . The same university appointed him to a professorship for flute in 2001 . From 2006 to 2011 he taught at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . He has been giving master classes since 1974, among others in Germany, Japan, Korea and South America. His students play in German and international orchestras and teach at music schools and colleges .

Gunther Pohl made radio, vinyl and CD recordings. He traveled through Europe, Asia and South America with various chamber music ensembles. As a soloist he played under the direction of Herbert Blomstedt , Eugen Jochum , Rafael Kubelík , Helmuth Rilling , Horst Stein and others.
