Gustav Bay

Johann Gustav Adolf Bay (born January 30, 1866 in Basel , † May 25, 1931 in Liestal ) was a Swiss politician.

Life

Bay completed a theology degree in Basel , Berlin , Greifswald and Heidelberg . From 1891 to 1897 he was pastor in Diegten - Eptingen . From 1897 to 1931 he was active as a free-spirited government councilor. He was responsible for the office of education and churches. He was responsible for the School Act of 1911 and the creation of school accident and school house liability insurance in 1924.

Bay was a co-founder of the Baselland Natural Research Society in 1886, he is considered a sponsor of the Baselland Cantonal Library and was jointly responsible for the creation of the 1932 " History of the Basel landscape and the Canton of Basellandschaft ".

Gustav-Bay-Strasse in Münchenstein is named after him.
