Gustav Brandt (born June 2, 1861 in Hamburg , † February 25, 1919 in Berlin ) was a German illustrator and one of the most prominent draftsmen of the satirical magazine Kladderadatsch .

Life

Gustav Brandt studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1880 to 1883/1884 . There were Heinrich Lauenstein , Andreas Müller , Hugo Crola and Peter Janssen the Elder his teachers. From 1884 he worked for the Kladderadatsch . Along with Wilhelm Scholz , he was one of the magazine's most prominent draftsmen. When the publisher Johannes Trojan was replaced by Paul Warncke in 1909, Brandt and the German-American artist Arthur Johnson became one of the paper's leading caricaturists.
