Gottfried Rehm

Gottfried Rehm (born October 17, 1926 in Poppenhausen , Fulda district ; † August 8, 2020 in Fulda ) was a German pedagogue and author of specialist and non-fiction books on organ, music and local history. He published poems, short stories and novels under the pseudonym Gustav Damann .

Life

After graduating from high school, Gottfried Rehm studied at the Pedagogical Institute in Jugenheim near Darmstadt and at the Missouri State University in Kirksville (USA). After completing his studies, he worked as a teacher in Fulda and Gersfeld from 1950 to 1966 . He then worked as a lecturer until 1973 and then until his retirement as a professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda in the pedagogy (music) department. From 1977 he was a scientific member of the Historical Commission for Hesse . At the end of 2011, Rehm was recognized by the International Valentin Rathgeber Society , of which he was an honorary member, for his many years of service.

Rehm was married and had three children.

Activity as an author

Gottfried Rehm wrote numerous writings and books about his childhood and youth in the Rhön and Rhön legends as well as on the music history of Fulda and the Rhön, especially on organs . Sabrina Mehler calls him a witty and entertaining author in the Fuldaer Zeitung , who also let his readers benefit from his extensive knowledge of the region in the Buchenbl Blätter , the newspaper's local history supplement.

In 2001, the Goethe Society Frankfurt am Main selected Rehm's poem "Hope" for an edition project.

Honors

  • Sponsorship award from the city of Fulda for home and foreigners
  • In 2013, Rehm received the “Rhön Culture Prize” from the Rhön Club .
