Gustav Hermann Göhl
Gustav Hermann Göhl (born June 16, 1859 in Mitteloderwitz ; † January 11, 1931 Neugersdorf ) was a German teacher and Esperantist . He became known through some important textbooks on the planned language Esperanto .
Life
Gustav Herrman Göhl was born in 1859 as the son of the master baker Ernst Göhl and his wife Henriette nee. Weber born. After attending the elementary school in Mitteloderwitz, he went through the rural class seminar in Bautzen from Easter 1873 to August 1874 and later passed his matriculation examination at the grammar school in Zittau . From 1881 to 1887 he studied modern languages and theology at the University of Leipzig .
After completing his studies, Göhl worked as a conducting teacher at the private school in Alt- and Neugersdorf. In addition to his teaching activities, he also repeatedly occupied himself with linguistic studies and received his doctorate in 1889 with Modi in the works of W. v. Eschenbach at the University of Leipzig.
On September 28, 1891, Göhl entered the public school service and became a teacher and school director in Glashütte . In 1892 he married Anna Emma geb. Kippel, before he took over the management of the school in Hartmannsdorf in March 1894 . From 1898 he became the director of the boys' school in Freiberg . In 1901 Göhl came to Riesa and headed the high school there from Easter . In 1903 he became a citizen of the city. During his time in Riesa, he campaigned for a stronger integration of the natural sciences in school lessons and suggested converting the community school into a Realprogymnasium . This was already approved in 1901, in 1902 he became interim director and in 1905 finally director of the school. He held this position for over a decade.
After being appointed professor in 1907, he spent the summer on a study trip to France . From 1908 Göhl became increasingly concerned with Esperanto and in 1914 published the book Esperanto - A cultural promotion and its fulfillment on behalf of the German Academic Esperanto Association. In 1917 he was appointed teacher appointed. Upon his renewed suggestion, the Riesa Realprogymnasium was converted into an upper secondary school in 1919 .
In the same year the Hermann Göhl Foundation awarded the first scholarship . A little later Göhl retired and returned to Neugersdorf. In the following years he devoted himself intensively to Esperanto and became a member of the Lingva Komitato in Paris around 1929 , a predecessor of the Akademio de Esperanto . Göhl died in Neugersdorf in 1931.
After his death the Esperanto Verlag Berlin published in 1932 his work Verbliche Schrachlehre des Esperanto . When it was reprinted in 1973, it was considered one of the best German works on the grammar of Esperanto.
