Gustav Hessing
Gustav Hessing (born January 20, 1909 in Chernivtsi , Austria-Hungary ; † January 8, 1981 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter and university professor .
biography
Hessing studied in Vienna, his work from the interwar period was expressionistic, later Hessing was influenced by surrealism , cubism and abstract painting. Hessing was banned from working from 1938 to 1945. From 1967 to 1979 he worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna . Hessing received the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts in 1967. In 1979 Hessing had a major retrospective at the Austrian Belvedere Gallery .
Hessing was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 10, row 4, no. 87).
