Gustav Lange (* 13. August 1830 in Schwerstedt ; † 20th July 1889 in Wernigerode ) was a German composer of the Romantic .
life and work
Gustav Lange received piano and organ lessons from his father as a child . He later studied piano, organ, figured bass and composition at the Erfurt Conservatory . Encouraged by his success as a composer in the 1860s , Lange composed around 500 piano works, including fantasies , marches , polonaise , mazurkas and transcriptions of famous works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Anton Rubinstein, and others. Most of his pieces can be assigned to salon music and therefore feature does not have a particularly high level of difficulty. The piano piece Edelweiß (op.31) and the flower song (op.39) are the composer's best-known works today.
