Gustav Richter (historian)

Gustav Richter (Latinized Gustavus Richter ; born June 29, 1838 in Naumburg (Saale) , † January 28, 1904 in Jena ) was a German classical philologist , historian and educator .

Life

He studied philology and history in Jena and Bonn and from Easter 1862 pursued the career of a high school teacher in Posen , Schulpforta and Weimar , where he worked as a senior teacher and professor until he was appointed director of the new high school in Jena in autumn 1876. Richter took part in efforts to improve the teaching method in higher schools, which brought him together with Hermann Perthes and later with Otto Frick and moved him to join the German Unified School Association .

With Frick, he founded the educational journal teaching samples and courses from the practice of grammar schools and secondary schools in Halle in 1882 .
