Gustav Riehl (dermatologist, 1894)
Gustav Franz Eugen Riehl (born June 18, 1894 in Vienna ; † June 8, 1981 there ) was an Austrian dermatologist and university lecturer .
Life
His father was Gustav Riehl . Gustav Franz Eugen passed his matriculation examination at the grammar school of the Theresian Academy in Vienna. Riehl then turned to the study of art history and medicine at the University of Vienna , which he, interrupted by military service as a doctor, he obtained in 1921 with the academic degree of Dr. med. completed. Riehl then completed further training at the Pathological-Anatomical Institute of the University of Vienna and at the First Surgical University Clinic under Anton von Eiselsberg .
Between 1922 and 1925 Riehl taught as an instructor at the Pathology Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore . After his return to Austria, he held an assistant position in the dermatological department of the Vienna General Polyclinic . In 1932 he completed his habilitation and took over the management of the clinic. In 1939 he was drafted into the military.
In 1946, Gustav Riehl was appointed associate professor and head of the lupus healing facility, which later became the skin department of the Wilhelminenspital . In 1960 he retired. In 1980 he was made an honorary senator of the University of Vienna. Gustav Riehl introduced blood transfusions to the treatment of skin tuberculosis and burns.
