Gustav Thurau

Gustav Thurau (born March 3, 1863 in Tilsit , † July 7, 1918 in Greifswald ) was a German Romanist .

life and work

Thurau received his doctorate in 1899 under Alfons Kissner at the Albertus University in Königsberg with the work suggested by Carl Appel Contributions to the history and characteristics of the refrain in the [sic] French chanson (Weimar 1899, expanded to Der Refrain in der [sic] French chanson. Contributions on the history and characteristics of the French kehrreims , Berlin 1901, Nendeln 1977, XXV / 494 p.). He completed his habilitation with Kissner's successor Eduard Koschwitz († 1904), was a private lecturer in Königsberg, then went to Greifswald , where he was Professor of Romance Philology from 1913 to 1918 as the successor to Edmund Stengel, an intimate of Koschwitz . Alfons Hilka followed him .
