Max Kaluza

Maximilian Kaluza (born September 22, 1856 in Ratibor , Upper Silesia , † December 1, 1921 in Koenigsberg , East Prussia ) was a German Anglist , university professor and non-fiction author .

Life

Maximilian Kaluza studied from 1873 to 1877 on Matthias High School in Breslau and was ebenda with the thesis about the relationship of the Middle English alliterative poem "William of Palerne" to his French templates on January 12, 1881 Doctor of Philosophy PhD . After the state examination in December 1881, he worked from 1882 to 1884 as a trial candidate and assistant teacher at the grammar school in Ratibor and from 1884 to 1887 as a grammar school teacher in Opole .

On May 17, 1887 , Max Kaluza completed his habilitation at the Albertus University in Königsberg with the text On the handwriting relationships of the Middle English poem "Libeaus Desconus" as a university lecturer for English language and literature. From July 1894 he was a permanent associate professor and director of the English seminary and after June 1902 a full public professor. He retired in the summer of 1921.

The son Theodor Kaluza (1885–1954) was a German physicist and the grandson Theodor Kaluza (1910–1994) was a mathematician.
