The Rifugio Cevedale - “G. Larcher " or Rifugio Larcher al Cevedale (German also Larcherhütte ) is an alpine refuge of the Trentiner Alpenverein (SAT) in the Italian Ortler Alps at an altitude of 2608  m slm

Location and surroundings

The hut is located in the back of the Val Venezia , a side valley of the Val di Peio within the Stelvio National Park, which is characterized by moraines . It is surrounded by several glacier-covered peaks, for the ascent of which it also serves as a base. The hut is also popular with day visitors due to the relatively simple and short approach from Malga Mare . A little above the refuge there is a small Marienkapelle built in 1958. To the east lies the Lago di Marmotte.

history

The refuge was opened in August 1892 after the then President of the Trentino Alpine Club, Silvio Dorigoni, had identified the location in 1881 and the property was subsequently acquired by the SAT. As early as 1907, the Rifugio Cevedale was expanded for the first time with the addition of two rooms, one for women and one for men, and a year later the single-storey building was extended. Between 1939 and 1942, the Milan Section of the CAI ran the hut. The Milan section dedicated it to Guido Larcher , who was President of the SAT for 17 years between 1902 and 1937. In the First World War from serving Trento originating and irredentistisch minded Larcher as a volunteer at the Alpini , in the same unit in which also Cesare Battisti was under arms. After the war he joined the Fascist Party , became chairman of the Fascist Party in Trentino, general and senator . Arrested briefly in 1945, he benefited from the amnesty law submitted by Palmiro Togliatti in 1946 .

Between 1989 and 1992 the rifugio was rebuilt and significantly expanded. Further work was carried out between 2009 and 2010 to enable the hut to be open to ski tourers in spring as well.
