The Zufallhütte (accent on the second syllable, so Zufàll ; Italian Rifugio Nino Corsi ) is a refuge in the Ortler Alps in South Tyrol . The name is not derived from chance , but from the nearby Plima waterfalls .

Location and surroundings

The Zufallhütte is located at an altitude of 2265  m in the inner Martell Valley , a southern side valley of the Vinschgau . It is located in the municipality of Martell in the Stilfserjoch National Park .

The hut is the starting point for ascents to the west over the Madritschjoch or the Eisseepass into the Suldental . A southern route leads to the somewhat higher Marteller Hut and further to the Köllkuppe and the eponymous random peaks . To the east you reach the Vordere Rotspitze and over the Sallentjoch Rabbi in Trentino .

history

The hut was built in 1882 by the Dresden section of the DuÖAV , managed from 1884 and greatly expanded in 1913. During the First World War , a barracks village of the Austro-Hungarian army was built in the immediate vicinity . From this time, the 1915 built comes Sacred Heart Chapel next to the cabin, the 1916 the commander of the Ortler front , Colonel Moritz Erwin von Lempruch was expanded. An Austro-Hungarian section command was housed in the Zufallhütte itself .

After the end of the First World War, the building was looted and badly damaged. In 1921 the Milan section of the CAI received the remains of the random hut. With the financial support of the Foglia-Corsi family, the building was repaired in 1926–1927 and an extension was built in 1939, as well as renaming after the ski mountaineer Nino Corsi.

Together with 24 other shelters expropriated by the state, the Zufallhütte became the property of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol in 1999; At the end of 2010, the license for their management by the CAI expired. Since 2015, the state of South Tyrol has been supported in the management of the hut (assignment to tenants, supervision of management, renovation measures) by a joint commission, in which the AVS and CAI are represented in addition to the public sector .
