The two random peaks (stress on the second syllable, i.e. random ) are glaciated high peaks in the Ortler Alps in Italy . The Hintere Zufallspitze (also Südliche Zufallspitze , Italian Cevedale II ) reaches a height of 3757 m slm. The 3700 m high Vordere Zufallspitze (also Nördliche Zufallspitze , position: ⊙ ) is a hill about 200 m in front of which the actual summit structure has almost no notch is connected and only when viewed from the Martell valley gives the appearance of an independent summit.
Location and surroundings
The two random peaks are part of the main ridge of the Ortler Alps. They are located at the apex of the Martell Valley in the north, the Val de la Mare in the southeast and the Valle Cedec in the southwest. The Cevedale ( 3769 m ), connected by a sharp ridge , rises only about 600 m southwest of the summit of the Hinteren Zufallspitze . The closest peak in the main ridge, which continues to the northwest, is the Suldenspitze ( 3376 m ). At the random peaks , the Zufrittkamm , which initially strives to the east and later to the northeast, loosens itself and finds its first peak in the Köllkuppe ( 3330 m ).
The Hintere Zufallspitze lies exactly on the border between South Tyrol , Trentino and the Lombard province of Sondrio , or the communities Martell , Peio and Valfurva . The Vordere Zufallspitze, on the other hand, is already completely on South Tyrolean soil. The random peaks and the surrounding area in a wide area are protected in the Stilfserjoch National Park .
Climbs
The random peaks are climbed relatively often as part of an alpine tour and also as a ski tour, but a little less often than the 12 m higher Cevedale. In particular, the rear random peak is often reached or exceeded in connection with a Cevedale ascent. The closest bases are the Rifugio Larcher , the Rifugio Pizzini-Frattola , the Rifugio Gianni Casati , the Marteller Hütte and the Zufallhütte .
