The Rifugio Dorigoni , full name Rifugio Saènt "Silvio Dorigoni" , (also Rifugio Silvio Dorigoni or German Dorigoni Hut ) is an alpine refuge of the Trentiner Alpenverein (SAT) in the Ortler Alps at an altitude of 2436  m slm .

Location and surroundings

The hut is located in the Val di Saènt in the rear Val di Rabbi , a side valley of the Val di Sole within the Stilfserjoch National Park . It is surrounded by several glacier-covered peaks, for the ascent of which it also serves as a base.

history

Construction of the refuge began in 1901 after the building site was made available to the SAT. In August 1903, the rifugio was officially inaugurated during the SAT Congress, which was held in Rabbi. It was named after Silvio Dorigoni, who fought on the side of Garibaldi in the Second Italian War of Independence , later was mayor of the city of Trento and from 1896 to 1898 also president of the SAT, under the sign of the Trentino Alpine Association, which was then characterized by nationalistic and irredentist ideas .

The hut at that time consisted of a simple cube-shaped structure. In 1985 a new building was erected next to the old building. The work, during which the old hut was also renovated, dragged on until 1987. In September 1987 the new Rifugio Dorigoni was inaugurated on the occasion of the 93rd SAT Congress, which was again meeting in Rabbi.
