The Rifugio Capanna Piz Fassa ( Capanna Fassa for short , Fassahütte in German ) is a private refuge on the summit of Piz Boè in the Trentino-South Tyrol region in the Dolomites . It is one of the highest huts in the Dolomites.
Location and surroundings
The Capanna Fassa is located at 3152 m slm on the summit of the Piz Boè, the highest point in the Sella group . The regional border between Trentino-South Tyrol and Veneto and the provincial borders between Trentino , South Tyrol and Belluno run a few meters from the building . The “lightest three-thousand-meter peak in the Dolomites” can be climbed from several sides and offers a magnificent all-round view.
history
The idea for building a hut on Piz Boè came to Francesco Dezulian, the son of a tourism pioneer in the Fassa Valley, for the first time in the spring of 1963 with the opening of the aerial tramway to Sass Pordoi . Construction work began in the summer of 1968 under Luigi Bernard. A light material ropeway could not withstand the load and the components had to be laboriously brought up on foot. In 1980 the hut was expanded and got its current appearance. The rifugio has been run by the mountain guide and ski instructor Guido Bernard for decades and has been family-owned since it was built. The annual opening times are based on the weather and water availability , depending on the altitude .
