The Rifugio Dodici Apostoli , full name Rifugio Dodici Apostoli "F.lli Garbari" , also in the spelling Rifugio XII Apostoli (German Twelve Apostles Hut ) is a refuge of the Trentiner Alpenverein (SAT) in the Brenta in Trentino . The hut, which is usually open from mid-June to mid-September, has 38 beds and a winter room with 6 beds.

location

The refuge is located in the southern area of the Brenta Group on the western side facing the Val Rendena . It was built on the outer edge of a hollow, the Conca di Pratofiorito, in the valley head of the Val di Nardis at an altitude of 2487  m slm . It is named after a conspicuous small rock formation that resembles praying people on Passo XII Apostoli in the south of the same name. A few hundred meters from the Rifugio, there is a chapel that was blown into the rock at the northern wall of the Cima dei XII Apostoli and is dedicated to the people who died on the mountain.

history

The rifugio was inaugurated in 1908 after a year of construction. The hut built by the SAT was able to be built thanks to the financial help of the two brothers Carlo and Giuseppe Garbari, two wealthy merchants from Trento as well as hobby alpinists and photographers. The original cube-shaped building was expanded for the first time in 1956 and completely renovated between 1998 and 1999. The rock chapel, built in 1952 with its characteristic window in the shape of a large cross, was blown out of the rock in memory of three mountain hikers who died in 1950 in a crevasse on the Vedretta dei Camosci below the Cima Tosa . There are numerous memorial plaques on the walls of the church, commemorating climbers who have had an accident. Every year on the first Sunday in July there is a well-attended memorial mass in and in front of the chapel.
