The Plattkofelhütte ( Italian Rifugio Sasso Piatto , Ladin Utia de Sas Plat ) is a refuge in the Dolomites at an altitude of 2300 m slm
Location and surroundings
The Plattkofelhütte is on the Fassajoch ( Ladin Jëuf de Fascia , Italian Giogo di Fassa , 2297 m slm ), which connects the Alpe di Siusi with the Val Duron , a side valley of the Fassa Valley . It is located in the municipality of Campitello di Fassa in Trentino ( Italy ), only a few meters from the border with Castelrotto in South Tyrol .
It is an important base for mountain hikers on the Alpe di Siusi, which extends north and north-west of it, and in the surrounding mountains. To the west you reach the Tierser-Alpl-Hütte below the Rosszähne , from where you can get to the Schlern and southwards to the Rosengarten group .
The hut's eponymous local mountain, the Plattkofel ( 2969 m slm ), is located immediately northeast of the building and can be easily climbed from there.
To the northwest, a hiking trail leads to the Langkofelhütte , which can also be used to circumnavigate the entire Langkofel group . In an easterly direction you can reach the Rifugio Sandro Pertini without major differences in altitude via the Friedrich-August-Weg and further to the Rifugio Friedrich August not far from the Sella Pass .
history
In the 1930s, Anton Kasseroler built the Plattkofelhütte as accommodation for hikers and mountaineers, but had to close it during the Second World War . In the 1950s, the hut, which burned down during the war, was rebuilt and significantly expanded in 1971. In 2016 the beds were renewed.
