Horse teeth

The Rosszähne ( Italian Denti di Terrarossa ) are a series of peaks in the Schlern group in the Dolomites, cut by small notches . Its highest point is the Großer Rosszahn, which towers roughly in the middle of the chain, at 2653  m slm

Location and surroundings

The horse teeth running in east-west direction are located in the border area between South Tyrol and Trentino in the western Dolomites. The South Tyrolean part is protected in the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park . The flanks that break off to the north towards the Alpe di Siusi are in the municipality of Castelrotto . The southern flanks belong to Tiers to the west from the summit of the Großer Rosszahn , to Campitello di Fassa to the east from the summit . While the series of peaks ends in a chain of hills to the east between the Alpe di Siusi and the Val Duron , the Roterdspitze rises at its western end , at 2655  m the highest point in the Schlern group. Just south of the Großer Rosszahn is the mountain saddle of the Tierser Alpl, which separates the Schlern group from the Rosengarten and offers space for the Tierser-Alpl hut .

Climbs

In the past, mountaineering paid little attention to horse teeth. It was not until the 1960s that they were made accessible through the Maximilian via ferrata . The via ferrata starts at the Tierser-Alpl-Hütte, crosses the Großer Rosszahn and continues along the ridge to the Roterdspitze.
