The Schlern Group is a mountain group in the western Dolomites , which is mainly located in South Tyrol ( Italy ). It is named after its most famous mountain, the Schlern .

Location and surroundings

The Sciliar Group is located on the western edge of the Dolomites, which drop here over the low mountain range of the Sciliar area to the Eisack Valley . In the south it is bordered by the Tierser and the Tschamin valley . In the southeast, it merges into the Rosengarten group , separated from the Tierser Alpl , with which it is occasionally combined to form the Schlern-Rosengarten group . Towards the east and north, the elevations drop down to the Alpe di Siusi , which in turn is framed by Val Gardena and the Langkofel group .

Almost the entire area of the Sciliar Group lies in the South Tyrolean communities of Castelrotto , Fiè allo Sciliar and Tiers , where it is largely protected in the Sciliar-Rosengarten Nature Park . Only small parts of the easternmost foothills are in the Trentino municipality of Campitello di Fassa .

structure

The most prominent mountain of the group and namesake is the Schlern ( 2563  m ) with its striking plateau and the two towers Santner and Euringer in front of it . The Tschafatschzug with the peaks Hammerwand ( 2124  m ) and Tschafon (also Völseggspitze , 1834  m ) is located south-west of the Schlern massif . Towards the east, the Schlern is joined by an increasingly narrow ridge, the first significant elevation of which, the Roterdspitze ( 2655  m ), is the highest peak in the entire Schlern group. Further to the east are the Rosszähne ( 2653  m on the Großer Rosszahn ), a series of peaks made up of several peaks.
