Tiers valley
The Tierser Tal , also simply called Tiers , is a side valley of the lower Eisack valley in South Tyrol ( Italy ). In the north it is bordered by the mountains of the Schlern group , in the eastern end of the valley and in the south by the Rosengarten .
From the valley entrance at Blumau (a village about 10 km from Bolzano ), after a 5 km long, sparsely populated section of the valley you come to the village of Breien , also known as a halfway. The following very steep section leads to the main town of the valley, Tiers, and from there to St. Zyprian and Weisslahnbad . The Niger Pass above the southeastern end of the valley provides a transition into the Eggental .
The Tierser Valley is drained by the Tierser Bach . This has a length of 15.2 km and a catchment area of 63 km². The most important types of rock are porphyry and dolomite .
Administratively, the valley section from Breien belongs to the municipality of Tiers , from Breien to Blumau the orographically right side belongs to Völs am Schlern , the left side, however, to the municipality of Karneid .
Parts of the north-facing valley flanks are protected in the Schlern-Rosengarten nature park .
