The Tierser Bach (also Breibach or Breienbach ; Italian rio Bria ) is a 15.2 km long left tributary of the Eisack in South Tyrol . It rises in the area of the Schlern-Rosengarten nature park and flows into the Eisack near Blumau . The Tierser Bach drains the Tierser Valley (63 km²). There are two discharges at the stream that are used to generate electricity. The most important tributaries are the Tschaminbach and the Manötschbach. From Breien to the confluence with the Eisack, the Tierser Bach forms the boundary between Völs and Karneid .

history

The Tierser Bach is first documented in a diploma of Emperor Conrad II from 1027 for the bishopric of Trento (transfer of the counties Vinschgau and Bozen) as "Bria fluvius" ; however, the corresponding document was disregarded in the late 13th century in the interests of Count Meinhard II of Tyrol-Gorizia .

The Tierser Bach also formed part of the medieval demarcation between the diocesan areas of Bressanone and Trento, as can be seen from a boundary description from around 1100.
