The Langkofelhütte ( Italian Rifugio Vicenza , Ladin Utia de Dantersasc ) is a refuge in the South Tyrolean Dolomites in the Italian Alps .

Location and surroundings

The Langkofelhütte is located at the confluence of the Plattkofelkar and the Langkofelkar ( Dantersasc in Ladin ), the two high valleys between the Langkofel and the Plattkofel surrounded by the mountains of the Langkofel group . It is located at an altitude of 2253  m slm in the area of the municipality of St. Christina .

The hut serves as a base for hikes and climbing in the Langkofel group. If you leave the valley in a north-westerly direction, you will reach Monte Pana and Val Gardena to the north and the Alpe di Siusi to the west . If you follow the road to the southeast up to Langkofelkar up, you arrive on the Sassolungo with the Toni-Demetz hut to Passo Sella . In a south-westerly direction, ascending through the Plattkofelkar, you reach the Oskar-Schuster-Klettersteig, which leads to the Plattkofel.

history

Historic dining room in the hut

The first hut on Langkofel was built in 1894 by the Vienna Academic Section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association (DÖAV), but fell victim to an avalanche in the winter of 1900–1901. In 1903 there was a two-story new building in a more protected location, which was significantly expanded in 1906–1908. After the First World War , the hut was expropriated by the Italian state and given to the Vicenza section of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).

Together with 24 other shelters expropriated by the state, the Langkofelhütte became the property of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol in 1999; At the end of 2010, the license for their management by the CAI expired. Since 2015, the state of South Tyrol has been supported in the management of the hut (assignment to tenants, supervision of management, renovation measures) by a joint commission, in which the AVS and CAI are represented in addition to the public sector .

A richly illustrated hut book with entries from the day it was opened on September 9, 1894 to 1908 is kept in the Val Gardena Museum in Ortisei .
