The Paolina Hut ( Italian Rifugio Paolina ) is a private refuge open in summer and winter and a mountain inn in the Dolomites in the Italian Alps .
Location and surroundings
The Paolina hut is located at 2125 m above sea level on the southwest slope of the rose garden . It is located in the area of the municipality of Sèn Jan di Fassa in Trentino , only a few meters from the border with the South Tyrolean municipality of Welschnofen , and is almost 400 m above the Karerpass and about 600 m above the Karersee . From the Karersee settlement , the Paolina hut can be reached within a few minutes with the Paolina chair lift, which ends directly at the hut. In summer it brings hikers to the Rosengarten area, while in winter it is part of the Carezza - Karersee ski area . Alternatively, there is a one-hour hike from the Karer Pass or the Niger Road to the Paolina hut.
In summer, the Paolina Hut is used by many mountaineers as a starting and ending point for their hikes and climbing tours. The “neighboring” Kölner Hütte can be reached in 1¼ hours via the so-called Hirzelsteig, which leads along the western slope of the Rosengarten group. In the other direction, experienced hikers need ½ hour to the Christomannos monument at the southern tip of the Rosengarten group. As a day trips from the Paolina hut from the ascent of the above are suitable, depending on the condition rope routes developed Rotwandhaus ( 2806 m ) and various sub-orbits of the rose garden group, for example via the Vajolonscharte ( 2560 m ), the Tschagerjoch ( 2630 m ) or the Santnerpass ( 2734 m ), the latter tour, which leads past the Santnerpasshütte , is also partly a via ferrata.
history
The hut was built in 1954 by Sepp and Anna Pichler and has been managed by their son Hermann since 1978. In the 1980s, the hut's dining room was expanded, and the old dining room was renovated in 2011. The hut has had electricity since 2009.
