The Rifugio Val di Fumo (German Val-di-Fumo-Hütte ) is a refuge of the Trentiner Alpenverein (SAT) in the Adamello – Presanella group in Trentino . The hut, which is usually open from the beginning of June to the beginning of October, has 50 beds and a winter room with 6 beds.
Location and surroundings
The refuge is located in Val di Fumo the upper end of the valley of Val Daone in Adamello-Brenta . The Val di Fumo forms a classic valley shaped by glaciers and, with a length of around 30 km, is one of the longest high valleys in Trentino. At the end of the valley, below the Lobbia Glacier, the Chiese rises , which is dammed for the first time in the Lago di Malga Bissina below the hut . The rifugio is roughly in the middle of the valley on the orographic left side of the valley, a little above the valley floor at 1918 m slm on the edge of a larch forest . Opposite the hut is the Malga Val di Fumo hut .
history
The Rifugio Val di Fumo opened in 1960. As early as 1903, the municipality of Daone offered the Trentino mountaineering association SAT building land and building materials for the construction of a hut in Val di Fumo. This previous building, erected elsewhere, was destroyed in the First World War and by the events of the war and avalanches . At the beginning of the 1950s, the SAT again showed interest in building a refuge in the area, whereupon the Daone municipality again made a building site available at today's avalanche-protected site in 1956.
