The Rifugio Giovanni Segantini Val d'Amola or just Rifugio Segantini (German Segantinihütte ) is a refuge of the Trentino Alpine Club (SAT) in the Adamello – Presanella group in Trentino . The hut, which is usually open from mid-June to mid-September and in the winter season, has 48 beds and a winter room with 8 beds. It is not to be confused with the also by Giovanni Segantini named Segantinihütte in Pontresina in Switzerland .

Location and surroundings

The refuge is located in the upper Val d'Amola, a western side valley of the Val Nambrone through which the Sarca di Nambrone flows, one of the three source rivers of the Sarca . From the hut at 2373  m slm height, there is a unique view of the central Brenta group when the visibility is good . Among other things, it is the starting point for climbing the Cima Presanella . Just a few meters from the rifugio there is a small chapel built in 1971 to commemorate the victims of the plane crash of 1956 at the Cima Giner 2957  m slm north of the rifugio , in which all 21 people on board were killed.

history

The Rifugio Segantini was the third hut built by the SAT and opened in 1901. It was named in honor of the Trentino painter Giovanni Segantini, who had died a few years earlier. This first cube-shaped hut was looted first by soldiers and then by the local population during the First World War . Since it was not in the immediate vicinity of the front, it was no longer of military interest. After the end of the war, the mountain hut was restored by the Trentino Mountaineering Association and served as a refuge until the 1970s. After using the nearby Lago di Cornisello in Val Nambrone for power generation and the construction of an access road through the Enel at the end of the 1960s, walking times to the hut were significantly reduced, so that the SAT decided to build a new and larger refuge next to the old building decided. The new rifugio was finally opened in 1977. In the early 1990s the old and new hut were renovated.
