The Rifugio Contrin ( German Contrinhaus ) is an alpine refuge in the Italian province of Trento in the Marmolata group within the Dolomites . It is located at an altitude of 2016 m slm in the municipality of Canazei and belongs to the Associazione Nazionale Alpini , the Italian mountain hunters association . The hut is usually open from the beginning of June to the end of September and has 112 beds.
location
The refuge is located in the upper Contrintal, a side valley of the Fassa valley . It stands on a wooded mountain slope at the beginning of the climb to Passo Ombretta ( 2701 m ) below the south wall of 3210 m high Gran Vernel , the western portion of the Marmolata forms -Massivs. The Via Alpina , Sentiero Italia and Sentiero della Pace long-distance hiking trails pass the Rifugio Contrin .
history
In 1896, the Nuremberg Section of the DÖAV acquired the building site for the construction of a refuge in the upper Contrintal from the municipality of Pozza di Fassa . Just one year later, on July 28, 1897, the hut was opened under the name Contrinhaus - Nürnberger Hütte at the foot of the Gran Vernel.
After the outbreak of World War I and the Italian entry into the war in May 1915, an Austro-Hungarian section command was housed in the hut . On September 6, 1915, the Contrinhaus was destroyed by a 70 mm shell that had been fired from an Italian gun under the command of the Alpini captain and section commander Arturo Andreoletti .
After the end of the war, the property on which the ruin lay was expropriated by the Italian state and, like many other DÖAV huts, entrusted to the Trentiner Alpenverein (SAT). Since the SAT was unable to finance the complete reconstruction, they were happy to hand over the half-rebuilt hut in 1921 to the Alpini Association ANA, founded in 1919, of which Arturo Andreoletti was second president since 1920. The building was rebuilt under Andreoletti until 1923 and opened for the annual Alpini Association meeting at the end of August 1926 under the name Casa degli Alpini in Val Contrìn (Eng. Alpinihaus im Contrintal).
In 1929 another refuge was built next to the Rifugio Contrin, which was later dedicated to Efrem Reatto , an Alpini who died in the Abyssinian War in 1936 and was awarded the gold medal for bravery . In 1930 a small chapel was built a little above the two buildings, dedicated to the people who died in the mountains.
In 2003, the Alpine Association decided to restore and modernize the two buildings. The project, co-financed by the Autonomous Province of Trento, was completed in 2010.
