The Rifugio Bozzi , full name Rifugio Angelino Bozzi , also Rifugio Montozzo (German Bozzihütte ) is an alpine refuge on the southern edge of the Ortler Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2478  m slm in the municipality of Ponte di Legno and belongs to the CAI - Section Brescia . The hut is managed from mid-June to mid-September. It has 24 beds.

Location and surroundings

The hut is located in the upper Valle di Viso in the Stilfserjoch National Park, about 150 meters below the northeastern Montozzoscharte, on which the border between Lombardy and Trentino-South Tyrol also runs. The Rifugio Bozzi was built at the top of a small depression that surrounds Lake Montozzo . There is a small war museum by the hut, which commemorates the events of the First World War .

The Sentiero della Pace (German Peace Trail ), the Sentiero Italia and the Alta via Camuna high- altitude hiking trail pass the hut .

history

The first hut on Lake Montozzo was built in 1910. At that time she served the Finance Guard as accommodation which the smugglers paths via the Montozzscharte and the Passo dei Contrabbandieri (dt. Smugglers Pass) by Austria-Hungary controlled. During the First World War , it was used by the Italian army , who built a barrack town around the hut, from which numerous remains of the wall have been preserved.
