The Suldental or simply Sulden ( Italian Val di Solda ) is a mountain valley in the Ortler Alps in South Tyrol . It is a south-facing, right side valley of the Vinschgau or upper Adige Valley . It is entirely part of the Stelvio National Park . Administratively, most of it belongs to the municipality of Stilfs , only smaller areas at the valley exit are in the municipality of Prad .

The valley, through which the glacier-fed Suldenbach flows, branches off roughly in a southerly direction from the Vinschgau near the village of Prad. In its lowest section, it offers space for the village of Stelvio on an elevated terrace on the west side. Further into the valley, the Trafoital dissolves at Gomagoi ( 1250  m ) and leads from here in a south-westerly direction to the Stilfser Joch . The road through the Sulden valley, which leads to the small basin of the village of Sulden , has a gradient of up to 13%. The village of Sulden is located near the end of the valley at an altitude of 1907  m and has around 400 inhabitants.

The valley basin in which Sulden is located is bordered in the southwest by the highest mountains in the Alps east of the Bernina group , the Ortler ( 3905  m ) and the Königspitze ( 3859  m ). The other peaks of the Ortler Alps that frame the valley basin also exceed the 3000 m mark, in some cases significantly.
