The Trafoital , also called Trafoier Tal or simply Trafoi ( Italian Val di Trafoi ), is a mountain valley in the Ortler Alps in western South Tyrol ( Italy ). It is fully protected in the Stilfserjoch National Park .

The high valley, drained by the Trafoier Bach , branches off at Gomagoi from the Suldental in a south-westerly direction and ends at the Stilfser Joch ( 2757  m ), a transition to Lombardy . The only village in the valley is Trafoi , which belongs to the Stelvio municipality . On the east side, the valley is dominated by the Ortler ( 3905  m ), the highest mountain in South Tyrol, as well as by the Tabarettakamm , which stretches north from the Ortler and carries the Tabarettaspitze ( 3128  m ). On the south side, peaks of the Ortler main ridge border the valley, including the Monte Zebrù ( 3735  m ), the Thurwieserspitze ( 3652  m ), the Trafoier Eiswand ( 3565  m ) and the Tuckettspitze ( 3462  m ). The Stilfser Joch, the southwestern exit of the valley, is flanked by Monte Livrio ( 3174  m ) and the Dreisprachenspitze ( 2843  m ). The Chavalatschkamm , which accompanies the Trafoital on the west side and bears the border to the Swiss canton of Graubünden , begins at the tip of the three languages ; the most important peak in this mountain range is the Rötlspitze ( 3026  m ).
