The Rötlspitze , also Rötelspitze , Punta Rosa or Piz Cotschen , is 3026 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the border area of the Swiss canton of Graubünden to the Italian province of South Tyrol .
Location and surroundings
The Rötlspitze is the highest mountain of the Fallschkamm, a mountain range running in north-south direction that forms the border between Switzerland in the west and Italy in the east. According to the Alpine Club division of the Eastern Alps , this ridge and thus also the Rötlspitze are assigned to the Ortler Alps, even if this is usually not used in common parlance. The mountain is located about one kilometer north of the Stilfser Joch ( 2757 m slm ), a transition between South Tyrol and the province of Sondrio ( Lombardy ).
In the west of the mountain lies the Val Muranza, in the north the Val Costainas , a side valley of the Val Muranza. In the east lies the Italian transformer valley . The neighboring mountain in the northwest is the 2955 m high Piz Stabels , in the northeast is the 2933 m high Korspitze ( Col di Quaira ). In the south, above the Stilfser Joch, lies the three-language peak ( Cima Garibaldi , Piz da las Trais Linguas , 2843 m ). The main summit is entirely on Swiss territory; the border with Italy and thus also with the Stilfserjoch National Park runs about 150 meters east over a 3020 m high pre-summit.
Paths to the summit
Several easy climbs lead to the summit . From the Stilfser Joch, the Rötlspitze can be reached in about an hour via the Dreisprachenspitze. A variant leads from the Stilfser Joch to the Seejoch between Rötlspitze and Korspitze and then over the east ridge to the summit.
