The Monte Scorluzzo is a mountain located above the Stilfser Joch . It is 3094 m high and belongs to the Italian region of Lombardy . To the north of Scorluzzo, which is under protection in the Stelvio National Park , is the Dreisprachenspitze - directly across the pass road .
history
During the First World War , this mountain was a strategically important place on the border between Austria-Hungary and Italy with a good view of the Stilfser Joch . At the beginning of the war, the Italians occupied the mountain. On June 4, 1915 , the mountain was overrun by 29 Austrian soldiers under the leadership of Rittmeister Andreas Steiner and was in Austrian hands from then until the end of the war.
The remains of the Italian and Austrian positions can still be seen today.
difficulty
Monte Scorluzzo is one of the easier three thousand meter peaks over the normal route and can be climbed without any problems even in poorer conditions. One reason for this is that the Stilfser-Joch-Straße leads up to an altitude of 2,758 m and ski facilities and hotels at the foot of the mountain can be reached via wide mule tracks and a total of only 338 meters of altitude have to be overcome (especially in the last third). According to the literature, the ascent and descent can be done in about 2–2½ hours under normal conditions. Alternative ascent options are offered by military paths from the road keeper's houses ( Cantoniere ) in the Braulio Valley (today part of the Sentiero della Pace ) on the SW ridge ( Filone del Môt ) or via the unmarked, arduous NW ridge ( Le Rese di Scorluzzo ).
