Life

Gustav Zimmermann studied medicine and embarked on a military career. He was the staff and battalion doctor of the 1st Battalion of the 4th Guards Landwehr Regiment based in Hamm in Westphalia. The battalion doctor Zimmermann had married the daughter of the high school director Friedrich Kapp, Berta Ernestine Ida Kapp (1827-1891), on November 19, 1850. In the course of the reforming and reorganization of the Prussian Army , he left this association on May 1, 1860 and moved to his new location in Halle (Saale) . Zimmermann was transferred to Danzig in 1862 as senior staff doctor. In 1866 war broke out with Austria . Zimmermann, most recently senior staff and chief physician of the 2nd heavy field hospital of the 1st Army Corps , took part and died of cholera on August 19, 1866 in Prerau .

Scientifically, Zimmermann mainly dealt with blood and published about it. At times he also published the magazine "Arrchiv für Pathologie undherapie". However, his recognition in professional circles remained low, because he mixed medical with natural philosophical views and his professional views were sometimes rejected.

His first son was the Royal Secret Building Councilor and Szczecin Shipbuilding Director Robert Zimmermann (1851-1912).
