Manor
History of the estate
The first known owner of the estate, mentioned in 1175, was the noble family von Pennethe, also known as von Pente, from the Bramsche area , who exchanged the estate in 1306 for Pente from the Malgarten monastery near Bramsche. In the second half of the 14th century, the von Lutten family inherited the estate. About Dorothea von Lutten, married to Sigismund von Rochow, early 18th century, the family received from Rochow the estate. After it died out, the estate passed to the family of the district administrator of the Cloppenburg district , Ernst Conrad von Rössing . The last male bearer of the "zu Lage" line, Wolf-Burghardt von Rössing, died in 1940. After the estate had been sold to a middle-class family in 1948, an entrepreneur bought the manor in 2004.
At the Protestant cemetery in Wulfenau there is a grave complex in which former residents of the Gut Lage manor from the von Rössing family are buried.
Design of the mansion and its surroundings
The manor house that exists today was built in 1844 on the foundations of a previous building as a single-storey building with a basement. In 1882 the building was given a further storey and a new hipped roof, and in 1907 a west extension with a staircase. Between the individual extensions, renovations were carried out inside the house. After the sale of the manor house by the Rössing family, it stood empty for 40 years. It was then extensively renovated.
The grounds surrounding the manor house also include a moat and a historic park with old trees from the first half of the 19th century.
