Gutowski is the name of an ancient Polish family who took their name from their villages Guty Magna, Guty Parva (Groß Guty and Klein Guty) and Guty, also known as Gutowo in the Duchy of Mazovia . This noble family belongs to the de Slepowron family , one of the oldest families of knights in the Duchy of Mazovia.

ancestors

Lawrence Corvinus de Slepowrony was the oldest known ancestor of this family. In 1224 he entered the service of Duke Conrad I of Mazovia and became his chancellor and marshal of his army. The oldest known documentary mention of this family under the name de Guty Magna et Guty Parva comes from the year 1396. The family carried this name until the 15th century. When, after a name reform in Poland, the particles ski and cki became the characteristic features of a Polish aristocratic name, Messrs de Guty spelled Gutowski, in German von Gutow, from that point on . This noble family also settled in Prussia (since 1505), Russia (since 1657) and Austria (since 1783) and still exists today.

The old Prussian noble family von Drygalski belongs to this family - a line of Gutowski who changed their name to von Drygalski after purchasing the estates Drygallen, Schlaga and Wirsbinnen near Lyck in 1505 in East Prussia . The Rhau von Gutowski in Prussia also belonged to this family; her male line expired in 1919.
