The Gwangju World Cup Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the South Korean city of Gwangju and was the venue for some games of the 2002 World Cup . It offers 44,118 seats to visitors.
In the meantime, the venue was named after Guus Hiddink and was renamed in honor of the coach who helped the South Korean national team make it to the semi-finals for the first time in history. They made it to the semi-finals by defeating Spain in this stadium.
Gwangju FC has played its home games in the arena since 2011 . The franchise currently plays in the K League Classic , the top division in South Korea.
