The Federal Gymnasium and Federal Realgymnasium Klosterneuburg , BG / BRG Klosterneuburg for short , is one of the largest general education colleges in Lower Austria with more than 1000 students . It includes the Klosterneuburg International School .

history

It was founded in 1902; Today it comprises two buildings, the old building and the new building, approx. 40 classes and employs over 100 teachers and approx. 1200 students. The two buildings - the new building was added in the eighties - are connected with each other, so that there no longer have to be external facilities - as in the seventies. Despite the reduction in the birth rate, the BG / BRG Klosterneuburg recorded an increase in pupils, which is why the school building was expanded to include more classrooms (as "construction" on the new building) in the years 2010-2014. The grammar school is also currently reaching its limits in terms of space and administration, and the wish for a second grammar school for Klosterneuburg has already been expressed several times.

After Robert Donner moved to BG / BRG Wenzgasse in Vienna on July 1, 2017 , Hemma Poledna took over the interim management of the grammar school. Robert Donner had been the director of the grammar school since autumn 2013. The predecessor since the anniversary year 2002/2003 was Rudolf Koch, who had previously worked as a teacher at the BG / BRG Klosterneuburg. Koch's predecessor was Erika Müller.

General

In addition to a class with a focus on music, the Klosterneuburg high school also offers a bilingual branch in which classes are held in English. From the eleventh grade there is the possibility to do the IB Diploma Program and to complete the International Baccalaureate in addition to the Austrian Matura .

The library of the school is one of the largest university libraries in Austria, which is why they often adults visited. In addition, the school has four computer labs (incl. Library), via a connection to the Lower Austrian Education Network (NÖB) with fiber optic cable, wireless and many educational teaching material ( Physics Collection , Biology Collection , chemistry collection , music collection , gymnastic equipment).

The BG / BRG is also very active internationally; It has partner schools in Varna ( Bulgaria ), Göppingen ( Germany ), Münster (Germany), as well as in Cambridge (Great Britain) , Arizona ( USA ), Montana (USA), Maryland ( USA ), Florida ( USA ) and in Washington DC ( USA) ) with whom regular student exchanges are maintained. In addition, students from the BG Klosterneuburg are selected annually to take part in the Model European Parliament .

Furthermore, the grammar school takes part in many competitions (foreign language competition, kangaroo of mathematics, Klosterneuburg youth prize, etc.) with great success.

The Gimpelfest is the annual final ball for high school graduates of the BG / BRG Klosterneuburg and will take place on January 25, 2020 for the 66th time. The venue is the Babenbergerhalle Klosterneuburg , the ball is one of the largest in the city. [outdated]
