The Plochingen grammar school is the second largest general education grammar school in Baden-Württemberg . Around 1,300 students are taught by around 110 teachers.

history

The school was officially founded on April 1, 1964, when two 5th classes were taught in the youth and club house on Esslinger Strasse. Construction of the school building began in the spring of 1966, while other classes were accommodated in the clubhouse and in the Protestant parish hall. The inauguration ceremony of the new school took place before the summer vacation on June 28, 1968. In 1971 there were 850 students in 28 classes. With the steadily increasing number of students, extensions and conversions were necessary, which took place in 1978/79. In 1981 a three-part sports hall was added. In 2001, the grammar school was the first school in Baden-Württemberg to have an internet classroom with 20 PCs and T-DSL connection. Another new building was started in 2004. For the 2004/2005 school year, the grammar school switched to the shortened course (G8) . Since the 2012/2013 school year there has been a choice between G8 and G9. In the second half of 2018/2019, concrete planning of the renovation of the school complex begins.

particularities

  • The dome-shaped observatory on the main building, which was installed in 1986 to clearly teach astronomy, is just as unusual as it is striking . The high school owes the astronomical observation dome with a reflector telescope with up to 400x magnification to a donation from the association.
  • In 1996, the handball players at the Plochingen grammar school were national winners in the " Youth trained for the Olympics " competition.
  • In 2014, the gymnasts at the Plochingen grammar school were the winners in the " Youth trained for the Olympics " competition.
