The Stein Gymnasium is a scientific, technological , economic and social science high school in the Middle Franconian town of Stein near Nuremberg .

The school, initially run as a branch of the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium Oberasbach , became independent in 1982. In 1985, a fifth grade started teaching in the completely new school building in the Deutenbach district. In 1988 the completed new school building was finally released for full teaching. Until then, some classes commuted between several school buildings in town. This makes the school one of the youngest grammar schools in the greater Nuremberg / Fürth area. The Stein Gymnasium took part in the European Gymnasium ( EGyII ) trial . The last students who took part received their high school diploma in 2010.

New building in 2008

In February 2008, an extension was put into operation at the Stein grammar school. In addition to two computer rooms with 32 seats each, a language laboratory and a nature and technology practice room, it also contains a new, modern cafeteria. The construction had become necessary because the increasing number of students at the grammar school required new rooms in the new building, geared to special subjects, in order to create space for more classrooms in the main building. In addition, the number of computers in the computer room had to be renewed and expanded for the larger classes.

Refurbishment 2018 until probably the school year 2021/22

From the 2018/19 school year, the Stein grammar school will be renovated in blocks. During the construction work, the windows will be replaced, the walls insulated, ventilation systems installed, the partially broken sun visors replaced, the toilets replaced and the classroom furnishings modernized. So z. B. Whiteboards replace traditional blackboards. In addition, external stairs and walkways have to be installed for fire protection reasons, as the stairwells are too narrow and, due to the construction of the building, an extension of the escape routes only makes sense via external facilities.

The renovation work on the north wing and in the science wing in the basement will be finished by the beginning of school in September 2019, in the 2019/20 school year the west wing and the physics rooms will be rebuilt, and in the following year the south wing with the art and music wing. The renovation work will be completed with the renovation of the administrative wing.

The relevant classes and specialist rooms will be relocated in modern pavilions specially set up for the construction project, which are located on the soccer field of the school's sports field. In order not to restrict the physical education, an agreement has been reached with the neighboring club STV Deutenbach to share their soccer field.

Exchange schools

The school has exchange programs with three French and one Canadian schools; Lycée Pierre Bourdan Gueret in the partner community Gueret , college Sœur Rosalie in Paris , the Lycée Leconte de Lisle on Reunion Island and the College Stanislas in Montreal , the latter alternating each only take place every two years. Stein also maintains an exchange program with the Shenzhen Foreign Language School, which accommodates over 8,000 Chinese students. In the 1990s there was a regular exchange with Wawasee High School in Syracuse, Indiana . The exchange with Dunwoody High School near Atlanta is new .

Sporting successes

The Stein Gymnasium was the first base school for rhythmic gymnastics in Bavaria. In close cooperation with TSV Stein, a group became German youth champions in this discipline in 1995. In the school sports competition, the school teams are always on the podium at the state finals. For a few years there has also been a school working group in apparatus gymnastics . The gymnastics school team has won several state winners and achieved top places (5th place) behind the sports high schools from the new federal states at the federal finals in Berlin. Furthermore, the football school team took eighth place in the German championship in 1999 after leaving all schools in Bavaria behind.

School theater

The cultural offer of the Stein Gymnasium increased the school play group , which existed in the years 2000-2010 under the direction of Marcus Gangloff. In addition to participating in the "Mittelfränkische Theatertage", the group was also able to make a name for itself three times by participating in the theater days of the Bavarian grammar schools in 2004, 2007 and 2010 and was always enthusiastically acclaimed.
