Frank Türr (born September 16, 1970 in Nuremberg ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Youth and first Bundesliga air

Frank Türr started playing football in a neighboring town in Nuremberg at FC Stein . The high school student switched to 1. FC Nürnberg in 1984 . The talented striker was always one of the best of his year and not only played in the club's youth teams, but also in all of the German youth national teams from U-15 to U-18. In particular in the U-16 he shone with 13 goals in twelve missions. So it was logical that in 1988, at the age of 18, as a contract amateur, he became the fourth striker in the Bundesliga squad of the then UEFA Cup participant from Nuremberg, in which he was clearly in the shadow of the seeded Dieter Eckstein and Souleyman Sane as well as Rudi Stenzels . On the 3rd matchday of the 1988/89 season he made his Bundesliga debut in the 3-2 defeat at Bayer 05 Uerdingen . After Dieter Eckstein's surprising move to Frankfurt during the current preliminary round, Frank Türr first moved up in the striker hierarchy, but was not able to convince in two further preliminary rounds that coach Hermann Gerland relied on him. Instead, the club signed Reiner Wirsching as a new striker during the winter break . Türr himself was only used again on Matchday 29, was allowed to play a full game for the first time on Matchday 31 and finally scored his first Bundesliga goal on Matchday 32 as a substitute at 2-2 at Hannover 96 .

Striker number three at 1. FC Nürnberg

The trained forwarding agent then got a professional contract for the 1989/90 season . For Türr followed his best season in the first Bundesliga. In 26 games, including nine from the start, he scored six goals and was the second most successful goalscorer behind Wirsching together with Sané. Club fans will particularly remember his 2-0 win over FC Bayern Munich on November 25th, when he played from the start. Despite these good performances, the new coach Arie Haan did not plan with him in the starting eleven in the 1990/91 season . Nevertheless, Türr won a place in the first team towards the end of the preliminary round when he was always in the starting line-up from the 11th to the 16th match day. But in the second half of the season he was only the substitute on duty, who could not add another goal to his two preliminary round hits.

Happy years in Bochum and Braunschweig

After three years at 1. FC Nürnberg, Frank Türr moved to VfL Bochum for the 1991/92 season . There, after the departure of Stefan Kohn and Uwe Leifeld, the fight for places in the attack was open. Frank Türr was seeded on the first match days, but quickly lost his starting place in the first team. In the end, he was twice successful in a total of 17 games for VfL. After a disappointing preliminary round with five short appearances, he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for the relegation-threatened Eintracht Braunschweig during the winter break of the 1992/93 season . There he was initially part of the team, but only scored one goal and lost his regular place towards the end of the season.

Successful times at SpVgg Greuther Fürth

After the descent of the Braunschweiger, Türr returned to his Franconian homeland to concentrate on his training as a police officer. At SpVgg Bayreuth in the then third-class Bayernliga , he met 30 games nine times, whereupon SpVgg Fürth signed him at the start of the Regionalliga Süd in 1994. In Fürth things finally went really well for the striker. He was an undisputed regular player and was the team's top scorer five times in eight years. In the 1996/97 season he made promotion to the second Bundesliga with SpVgg, to which he contributed 25 goals as the top scorer in the Regionalliga Süd. It was particularly spicy that he scored all three goals against his former club in the 3-1 win over 1. FC Nürnberg, which was also third-class at the time. Also in the second Bundesliga, Frank Türr was the constant in the storm for a long time, playing with a large number of strikers such as Milan Kerbr , Arie van Lent or Petr Ruman . It was not until the 2001/02 season that Ioannis Amanatidis and Francis Kioyo pushed him out of the team. After a total of 228 league games and 86 league goals, he ended his footballing career in 2002.

Further career

After the end of his career, Frank Türr joined the Bavarian police in 2002. He started the training after his return to Franconia in the mid-1990s. The parallel training cost him two training units a week when he was in Fürth. Türr works for the support command Nuremberg, whose tasks also include securing the Bundesliga home games of 1. FC Nuremberg. At the same time, Frank Türr is also the coach of the Bavarian police selection.
