Hélène Swarth , actually Stephanie Hélène Swarth (born October 25, 1859 in Amsterdam , † June 20, 1941 in Velp , Gelderland Province ) was a Dutch writer.

Life

Swarth was the daughter of the businessman Eduard Swarth and his wife Maria Jacoba Heijblom. She was born in Amsterdam and spent her childhood and youth in Brussels .

In 1894 she married her colleague, the Dutch writer Frits Lapidoth (1861–1932) in Mechelen ; the marriage lasted until 1910.

By his own admission, the French writer Alphonse de Lamartine was one of her role models. On the advice and support of the writer Pol de Mont , Swarth made a successful debut.

At the age of 82, Hélène Swarth died on June 20, 1941 in Velp, where she also found her final resting place.

Honors

In her honor, the municipalities of Hillegom and Oegstgeest (province of Zuid-Holland ) and Uithoorn (province of Noord-Holland ), as well as the cities of Groningen and s'Hertogenbosch, named streets after Hélène Swarth.
