The Hôtel de Ville (dt. Town hall) in Montbeliard , a town in the French department of Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comte , was built in the 18th century. The Hôtel de ville on Place Saint-Martin has been a listed building ( Monument historique ) since 1939 .

history

The previous building was built in 1470 and demolished in 1776. The foundation stone of the new Hôtel de Ville was laid on May 23, 1776, it was built according to plans by Philippe de La Guêpière . On November 13, 1778, the first meeting of the council took place in the new rooms.

In 1858, part of the Hôtel de Ville was converted into an Italian-style theater by Auguste Goguel, with a total of 500 spectators on the ground floor and two balconies.

architecture

The red sandstone building is structured by pilasters . On the gable is the coat of arms and the city's motto : “Dieu seul est mon appuy” (God alone is my support).
