The Hörnlihütte is a ski hut of the Arosa Ski Club built in 1923 at the highest point of the Hörnli ridge at 2511  m between the Hörnli and the Tschirpen in the Plessur Alps in the canton of Graubünden , Switzerland . It is located on the border between the communities of Arosa and Tschiertschen . South of the hut on the ridge are the stations of the Hörnli Express , Hörnli chairlift and Urdenbahn , from where a mountain hiking trail leads to Lake Urden and on to Tschiertschen or via Urdenfürggli to Lenzerheide .

history

seen from the east

Due to its location and special characteristics, the area near the Hörnli was discovered and used for skiing at an early stage. Since in the age before the mountain railways and ski lifts one had to rely on appropriate accommodation in the touring areas, the Arosa ski club decided in July 1923 to build a ski hut on the highest point of the Hörnligrat (2511 m) at the transition to Urdenfürggli. This was completely created by about 50 club members in private service and was inaugurated on December 9, 1923.

The Hörnlihütte was catered for right from the start, just as it is today in summer and winter. Various additions and modifications, especially in 1937, 1962 and 2004, have turned the Hörnlihütte into a stately restaurant with overnight accommodation for non-Club members as well.

Varia

As of November 1, 2014, the management of the Hörnlihütte was leased to the hotelier Hans-Christian “Hitsch” Leu or his Hörnli Gastro AG. Hitsch Leu is the brother of Livia Leu Agosti and the initiator and CEO of the Arosa Gay Skiweek .

The Hörnlihütte has been on the Swiss Irontrail route since 2014 .

In the summer of 2015, the Arosa parlor on the east side was renovated using raw knitted wood and quarry stone masonry, and the space available there was expanded by eight units to 85 seats with new wooden tables. In 2016, the ownership renewed the toilet facilities and the furnishings in the Schanfigger Stube .

The Hörnlihütte took first place in the 2017 ski hut special for the docu-soap Mini Beiz, dini Beiz .
