Livia Leu Agosti

Livia Leu Agosti (* 1961 in Zurich ; resident in Zurich and Trun ) is a Swiss diplomat . From 2009 to mid-2013 she was the Swiss ambassador to Iran . From August 2013 to August 2018 she was ambassador to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO . Livia Leu Agosti has been ambassador to France and Monaco since September 3, 2018.
Live and act
Born in Graubünden in 1961, she grew up as the daughter of hotelier Hans C. Leu (1930–2017) in Arosa . After completing the Matura at the Kantonsschule Chur , she studied at the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne Law and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from. In 1989 she joined the diplomatic service of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and was employed as a trainee in Bern , Paris and Geneva . From May 1991 she worked at the head office as a diplomatic assistant in the UN / International Organizations section of the former Directorate for International Organizations. Leu Agosti worked at the UN headquarters in New York as second-class embassy secretary from 1994 , was promoted to first-class embassy secretary in 1995 and to counselor in 1998.
In mid-1998 Leu Agosti was transferred to Cairo as an embassy counselor and first assistant to the head of mission. Four years later she returned to Berne to Political Department II, America, and after a year of parental leave she became Deputy Head of Political Department II, Africa / Middle East and Head of the Mediterranean , Middle East and Iran Department of Political Affairs with the title of minister. She headed Division II, Africa / Middle East from 2006 to 2009, and has held the title of ambassador since mid-2006.
In January 2009, Ambassador Leu Agosti took over the Swiss Embassy in Tehran as the successor to Philippe Welti , and in this role she also represented the interests of the USA in Iran until the beginning of July 2013. On August 1, 2013, as ambassador and delegate of the Federal Council for trade agreements , she took over the management of the bilateral economic relations department at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO . At the same time, she took a seat on the management board of SECO and on the management board of the Directorate for Foreign Trade at SECO. On November 15, 2013, Leu Agosti and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) received the “Common Ground Award” in Washington, in recognition of their diplomatic efforts in Iran.
In 2018 she became Switzerland's first woman to be ambassador to France.
Livia Leu Agosti is married to an ant researcher and has two sons.
