Rudolf Weiersmüller

Rudolf Weiersmüller (born August 10, 1939 in Teufen AR ; † December 13, 2004 in Rüfenacht ) was a Swiss diplomat . He was ambassador to Iran and Hungary .

Life

Rudolf Weiersmüller grew up in Teufen and graduated from the canton school on Burggraben with a commercial school-leaving certificate . He then completed an internship at the Swiss Bank Corporation . In Nepal he took part in setting up the production of Tibetan carpets. He studied at the University of Bern licentiate policy (lic. Rer pol..). In 1969 Ruedi Weiersmüller married Margret Fisch in Teufen. Weiersmüller joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 1972 . He was stagiaire in Bern , Mexico City , New Delhi and Dhaka , where Switzerland exercises a protective power mandate for Pakistan . There he was entrusted with tasks relating to the repatriation of the civilian population with the participation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement .

In 1974 and 1975 he headed the diplomatic secretariat in the executive body of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe . From the end of 1974 to 1979 Rudolf Weiersmüller was employed at the embassy in Ottawa . 1979 Rudolf Weiersmüller worked at the embassy in Caracas .

From 1980 to 1983 he headed the section for cultural and UNESCO affairs in the FDFA. From 1984 to 1987 Weiersmüller was employed at the embassy in Bonn . From 1988 to 1992 he coordinated international refugee policy in the FDFA. From 1993 to 1998 he was ambassador to Tehran, where he also headed the Foreign Interests Section as a protecting power for the USA. From 1999 to August 2004 he was ambassador to Budapest .
