Hut Kernbach (also Hütten Kernbach or Kernbacher Hütten , also " Försterei Kernbachshütte ") is a hamlet in the district of Lichtenberg , a district of Fischbachtal in the southern Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg .

Geographical location

Hut Kernbach is located in the middle of the forest, near the Heuneburg on the Altscheuer mountain above the Fischbach valley in the front Odenwald . The name “Kernbach” comes from the Old High German word “Quirnbuoch” and, according to today's view, means something like “Buchenwald”.

history

The origin of the “Hütten Kernbach” is probably related to the Lichtenberg Castle in the 16th century. It was once the home and workplace for charcoal burners and forest workers. Evidence of this is an old, abandoned, Koehler plate below the Kernbacher huts. Such traces can also be found in the immediate vicinity of the forest. The local charcoal burners were probably important for supplying the castle with charcoal .

From 1907 to 1965 the “Kernbachhütte” restaurant existed. This popular excursion or hiking destination was probably closely related to the Schellhaas'chen hotel industry in Lichtenberg. Today the “Hütten Kernbach” can still be found in the forest and serve as normal residential buildings.
