Obernhausen was a district of the formerly independent municipality of Lichtenberg , which today is itself part of the municipality of Fischbachtal in the southern Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in the Vorderen Odenwald .

Geographical location

Obernhausen is located in the Vorderen Odenwald on the southern slope of the Schlossberg above the Fischbach valley . The small town is now firmly fused with the Fischbachtaler district of Niedernhausen .

Obernhausen is located northwest of the "Freie Platz" in Niedernhausen, along Lichtenberger Strasse and the western side of Hindenburgstrasse, which meander south around and to the famous Lichtenberg Castle .

history

The small district of Lichtenberg was also known as the Lichtenberg Valley in the early years . It is first mentioned in 1384 as "two Husen located under Lichtenberg", and then in the 16th century as "Husen superior". In the same year, Count Diether VIII von Katzenelenbogen had to pledge his property between the Rhine and Main to his brother-in-law Archbishop Adolf von Mainz , which also included Obernhausen.

The "two houses" Obernhausen and Niedernhausen originally belonged together, but some houses in the former town of "Hausen" were still part of the castle freedom of Lichtenberg Castle, although they were not within the castle or town walls. These houses were separated from Hausen and incorporated into Lichtenberg and formed the nucleus of Obernhausen, the rest of the settlement became Niedernhausen . The court of Lichtenberg Castle was responsible for Obernhausen until 1803 . In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Darmstadt” was set up as a court of second instance for the Principality of Starkenburg . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords . This meant that the Lichtenberg Office was responsible for Obernhausen. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate . Over the centuries Obernhausen has always remained a part of Lichtenberg, but was run as a separate town until 1971.

The population figures for 1791, 1800 and 1806 were given as follows:

  • Obernhausen: 154, 141, 186 (20 houses) inhabitants
  • Kirnbach : 58.12 inhabitants

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Obernhausen in 1829:

»Obernhausen (L. Bez. Reinheim) Lutheran Filialdorf; is 1 1 / 4 St. Reinheim, partly, and partly of the same on the southern slope of the mountain at the foot of Lichtenberger, and has 20 houses and 195 Lutheran. inhabitants. There are many nail smiths here. "

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Lichtenberg, including Obernhausen , voluntarily merged with Steinau , Meßbach , Nonrod , Billings and Niedernhausen to form the municipality of Fischbachtal in 1971 .
