H. Cegielski - Poznań SA is a mechanical engineering company based in the Polish city of Poznan .
history
H. Cegielski is a joint stock company founded by Hipolit Cegielski in 1846 as a workshop with a metal goods shop in Poznan. Around 1855, the company's headquarters were moved to today's ul. Kozia and the production of agricultural machinery began. In 1859 the headquarters were changed again, this time to today's ul. Strzelecka, and locomobile production began there in 1860 . In 1868 the founder Hipolit Cegielski died and left a 300-man company to his heirs. In 1889, the founder's son, Stephan Cegielski , converted the company into a stock corporation. In the inter-war period , the company continued to expand, so that branch offices were established in Inowrocław , Chodzież and Rzeszów by 1939 . The product range ranged from agricultural machinery to trams and locomotives - armaments were also produced. Over 2,500 people worked in Rzeszów alone.
After the German invasion of Poland , the company was confiscated and sold to the Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) on November 1, 1939 . During the Second World War, the factories were bombed by the Allies and then dismantled before the advancing Red Army, including all machines, and taken to the Soviet Union. After the war the company was nationalized and in 1949 in Zakłady Metalowe im. Józefa Stalina w Poznaniu (ZISPO) (Josef-Stalin-Metallwerke Posen) was renamed and carried the name until 1956. Since 1956 the company has been manufacturing large marine engines. In the 1990s the company was re-privatized, with some divisions being spun off.
