HD 142 is a star in the constellation Phoenix that is orbited by an exoplanet . The star has an apparent magnitude of 5.7 mag and is about 26 parsecs (about 84 light years ) away from Earth . The spectral class of the main star is F7 V. It has a stellar companion of the spectral class K.
Planetary system
The exoplanet orbiting the star with a period of about 350 days is designated HD 142 b and has a mass of at least 1.3 Jupiter's masses . HD 142 b was discovered by measuring the radial velocity in 2001. The exoplanet orbits the central star at a distance of approximately one AU . Another companion, the HD 143 c , was discovered in 2012. It orbits the central star at a distance of 6.8 AU on a much wider orbit with an orbit of about 16 years (6000 days). Its mass is again significantly higher with 5 times the mass of Jupiter.
