The Higher Technical College in Hallein , the oldest vocational school in Austria, is a federal higher technical college in the municipality of Hallein in the Hallein district in the state of Salzburg .

history

A wood-figure-cutting school was the forerunner of the sculpture school founded in Hallein in 1870/71 . It was a wood carving course that was set up by the Hallein saltworks in 1843 to enable the miners' children who had left school to receive an education.

1871 Foundation of the first technical school for woodworking in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy as a wood carving school, under the direction of Wilhelm Schönhut junior, sculptor from Stuttgart

1876 ​​opening of the joinery department and 1894 start of the carpentry department .

In 1898 the stonemasons department was opened.

1904 Participation in the St. Louis World's Fair

In 1920 a building trade school for carpenters was started.

1955 Expansion with the locksmith department , later renamed to mechanical engineering.

Since 1973/74 the school has been run as an HTL with Matura.

From 1997 to 2005 the advanced course Ecodesign - ecological product development was carried out.

Because of the new school building, the HTL was housed in the Rainerkaserne in Salzburg from 2006 to 2008 .

The new construction of the school building according to the plans of the architect Helmut Mack (Arge Mack + Sorg) took place from 2007 to 2009.

The 150th anniversary of HTL Hallein took place in 2021.
